This Heritage Day, South Africans are being called to the coals for something truly historic: the world’s biggest braai. In partnership with Big Save, Castle Lager is inviting the nation to join a record-breaking celebration of food, culture, and unity on 24 September 2025.
Pretoria: Loftus Versfeld Stadium Goes Big
The main stage for the Guinness World Record attempt will be Loftus Stadium in Pretoria, where organisers plan to shatter records with:
- 2,500 braaiers manning tongs
- 420 braais lined up
- Half a ton of wors sizzling at once
- Each participant cooking their own 200g piece of boerewors
From safety compliance to Guinness rules, the effort is a logistical giant. “It’s not just a braai; it’s a full-on operation,” says Dylan Jardim, head of marketing at Big Save.
Entertainment includes performances by Mi Casa, Good Luck, Boohle G, Kurt Darren, Biggy and Lee Cole, with every ticket sold contributing to Trek4Mandela’s One Million Meals campaign, feeding families well beyond Heritage Day.

Cape Town: A Heritage Braai on Table Mountain
If you’re in Cape Town, Castle Lager is taking the celebration to new heights — literally.
On Table Mountain, locals and visitors can join the Castle Heritage Braai Day Activation from 11h00 to 17h00:
- Collect an activation card when you board the cable car at the Lower Station.
- Complete fun activities once at the Top Station.
- Claim your reward on the Twelve Apostles Terrace — a free boerewors roll and a Castle Lager (18+), or a soft drink for younger guests.
